13th Inning (UK Terms)

Around-the-Bases CAL – 13th Inning

Week 13 Cover©ChiChi Allen 2015

Now that all of our eyes are on the ballpark fences, we are anxiously waiting for those home runs!  But just like every good win in baseball, great hits do not come without some perseverance.  This week, we will diligently work on a basic stitch but we will see many home runs going across the fences made from the 12th Inning!

Please read through all the instructions before starting. This is the week 13 of the 16-week CAL.  The patterns for the first 12 innings/weeks can be found:

PDF print button as well as links to the video tutorial, American term pattern, and Dutch translation can be found at the bottom of this page.

13th Inning – Home Runs

Week 13We are starting the 13th inning with the same team as in the 12th inning.

  • Team A is starting the 13th Inning with a {multiples of 6 – 2} number of stitches per side.

Examples: 142, 154, 166, 178, 190, 202, 214, 226, 238, etc. per side

  • Team B will start the inning with {multiples of 6 + 2} stitches per side.

Examples: 146, 158, 170, 182, 194, 206, 218, 230, etc. per side

Only Row 56 is different for the 2 teams – so please be extra careful when proceeding to Row 56.

Both teams will add 9 stitches per side over 5 rows (Rows 54 – 58).

Special Stitch:

5-tr PopcornMake 5 trs in the same stitch. Carefully remove your hook, insert it into the first tr of the 5 trs, pick up the loop you dropped, and pull it through all the way. Ch 1.

Tips:

Tension – I sound like a broken record but watch your tension when making double crochet (dc) stitches.

Corners – Afghans worked in rounds like the ATB sometimes “turn” in the corners and look a bit wonky.  If this is the case for you, try working the Rows 54 & 55 and 57 & 58 from the wrong side of the afghan.  In other words, flip your afghan over when making dc’s this week.
