It is with a mixed feeling of excitement and sadness that I present to you the final inning of Around-the-Bases CAL.  For thousands of you who joined this CAL – thank you!  I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.  When I first started playing with this design at the beginning of the year, I had no idea this will lead to such a great adventure.

My special thanks go to my wonderful and international group of testers – Laurene, Isabelle, Lynnette, Margaret, Emily, Winnie, Ann, Betty, and Esther.  You know this would not have been possible without your hours of frogging but also support through laughter and friendship.

Please read through all the instructions before starting. This is the final week of the 16-week CAL.  The patterns for the first 15 innings/weeks can be found:

• 1st Inning – Shell Pillars

16th Inning – Fireworks

It’s been a fun game but there is no tie game in baseball, so it is time to claim our victory with fireworks! – I know the name is a bit of a stretch but play with me 🙂

For the last time, we are continuing with our Team A and Team B. You should be able to follow the same team you’ve been in for the past few innings. There is really no reason to actually count stitches for this inning. If you are a super cautious type, just make sure you have the equal number of V stitches per side (if you are making a square).

• Team A is starting the 16th Inning with a {multiples of 6 + 3} number of stitches per side. In other words, you should have an odd number of V stitches per row.

Examples: 165, 177, 189, 201, 213, 225, 237, 249, 261 etc. per side

• Team B will start the inning with {multiples of 6} stitches per side. This means you should have an even number of V stitches per row.

Examples: 168, 180, 192, 204, 216, 228, 240, 252, etc. per side

V stitch – count 1 V stitch as 3 stitches

Row 67 –  (hdc, ch 1, hdc) for in one stitch

Row 69 –  (dc, ch 1, dc) for in one stitch

Team A ONLY

Row 67 – on this row, you will only be working in the chain-1 space of the previous row’s V stitches

1. (hdc, ch 3, hdc) in the corner,
2. ** (hdc, ch 1, hdc) in the ch-1 space (1 V stitch made), **
3. Repeat 2 until the end of the row,
4. Repeat 1 through 3 for all sides
5. sl st to the first st

Row 68

1. 6 dc in the corner,
2. 7 dc in the next ch-1 space,
3. ** sc in the next ch-1 space, 7 dc in the next ch-1 space (one 7-dc cluster made) **
4. Repeat 3 until the end of the row,
5. Repeat 1 though 4 for all sides
6. sl st to the first st

Row 69 – watch your tension on this row – don’t make it too tight

1. sc in the 3^rd dc of the corner 6-dc cluster,
2. ch 1,
3. (dc, ch 1, dc) in between the corner 6-dc cluster and first 7-dc cluster from the previous row,
4. ** ch 1,
5. sc in the 4^th dc (middle) of the 7-dc cluster from the previous row,
6. ch 1,
7. (dc, ch 1, dc) in the sc from the previous row, **
8. Repeat ** 4 through 7 *** until the end of the row,
9. ch 1,
10. (dc, ch 1, dc) in between the last 7-dc cluster and the corner 6-dc cluster,
11. ch 1,
12. Repeat 1 through 11 for all sides
13. sl st to the first st

Team B ONLY

Row 67

1. (hdc, ch 3, hdc) in the corner,
2. starting with the space immediately before the first V stitch from the last row (but after the corner hdc that may look like a V stitch) (see pictured right), ** (hdc, ch 1, hdc) in space between two V stitches from the previous row (one V stitch made), **
3. Repeat ** to ** until the end of the row, (last V stitch should fall between the last V stitch and the corner hdc from the previous round)
4. Repeat 1 through 3 for all sides
5. sl st to the first st

You should have an odd number of V stitches per side

Row 68

1. 9 dc in the corner,
2. 7 dc in the next ch-1 space,
3. ** sc in the next ch-1 space, 7 dc in the next ch-1 space (one 7-dc cluster made) **
4. Repeat 3 until the end of the row,
5. Repeat 1 though 4 for all sides
6. sl st to the first st

Row 69 – watch your tension on this row – don’t make it too tight

1. sc in the 5^th dc of the corner 9-dc cluster,
2. ch 1,
3. (dc, ch 1, dc) in between the corner 9-dc cluster and first 7-dc cluster from the previous row,
4. ** ch 1,
5. sc in the 4^th dc (middle) of the 7-dc cluster from the previous row,
6. ch 1,
7. (dc, ch 1, dc) in the sc from the previous row, **
8. Repeat ** 4 through 7 *** until the end of the row,
9. ch 1,
10. (dc, ch 1, dc) in between the last 7-dc cluster and the corner 9-dc cluster,
11. ch 1,
12. Repeat 1 through 11 for all sides
13. sl st to the first st

Row 70

1. 7 dc in ch-1 space of the V-stitch,
2. sc in the sc from the previous row,
3. Repeat 1 & 2 all the way around your afghan,
