Friends Around the World CAL – Week 2 – Flower Compass by Valerie

Facebook crochet community, CAL – Crochet A Long, is continuing its first anniversary celebration with a beautiful pattern by Valerie of Agrarian Artisan.  For the second week of the Friends around the World CAL, Valerie designed Flower Compass, which is just as fun and beginner friendly as her last square, Octoghan.

I LOVE this design as it reminds me of Fuchsia that is blooming in my patio right now!

I made mine again with Scheepjes Colour Crafter with a 4.50 mm hook. I chose Barneveld for this dedicate square – I love Barneveld’s off-white color gives a soft hue.

For this square, I followed the chart, which I learned to read when I was a little girl in Japan. I think it is so fitting that Valerie took the time to convert her pattern into a chart for the Friends around the World CAL so anyone around the world can read the pattern (in addition to the 10 languages that the pattern is published in!).  I took the notes below in following the chart:

  • Round 5 (blue) – 3 dc’s on either side of the (ch 1, dc) repeats
  • Round 6 (black) – 6 dc’s on either side of the (ch 1, dc) repeats
  • Round 7 (blue) – 9 dc’s on either side of the (ch 1, dc) repeats
  • Round 8 (black) – 12 dc’s on either side of the (ch 1, dc) repeats

Just as the last week’s, my square measures just under 9 inches.

I cannot wait to try out Valerie’s other patterns, especially her wearable items such as Diamond Mitts and Pastel Cowl.
