My Cotton 8 Sample

Yarn – Scheepjes Cotton 8

Colors – Used a total of 12 (plus 1 left over) colors:

  • 1 skein each of canary, olive, light turquoise, orange, light pink, pink, moors, violet
  • A little over 1 skein each of white, light green, turquoise, fuchsia*
  • Just a little left over from my stash of pastel green

*I do wish I had one more skein of fuchsia.  I used it for Week 15 but did not have enough for Week 16 (I wanted to use one color for both weeks).  In a perfect world, I would have used 2+ skeins of fuchsia.

Please note if you are using the same colors as my sample, your yardage may still differ depending on how tightly you crochet, etc.  I also had left overs on most colors.

Yardage – @ 1,785 m (525 g)

Size – 35 x 35 inches (@89 cm)

Hook – 3.25 mm & 3.5 mm crochet hooks (the hook size recommended by Scheepjes is 3 mm but I didn’t own one, so I just used 3.25 mm.  3.5 mm was used for rounds with single crochet stitches as otherwise I tend to make them too tightly).

Tropical Delight

Center Square Pattern – My sample was made with Tropical Delight in the center.  I see that the pattern was originally published in Herrschener’s More Blue Ribbon Afghans book, which I do not own, but I am so glad Mellie from Mellie Blossom has taken the trouble of obtaining permission from the publisher for sharing this beautiful square.

I followed the pattern for Rounds 1 through 9.  I wanted a little more border around the flower, so after finishing Round 9, I made:

  • Round 10 – (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in the corner, dc in all st around to the corner
  • Round 11 – (dc, ch 3, dc) in the corner, dc in all st around to the corner
  • Round 12 – (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in the corner, dc in all st around to the corner
  • Round 13 – (2 hdc, ch 3, 2 hdc) in the corner, hdc in all st around to the corner
  • Round 14 – followed the patterns Round 12 instructions
  • Round 15 – (2 hdc, ch 3, 2 hdc) in the corner, hdc in all st around to the corner
  • Round 16 – (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in the corner, ** skip 2 st, dc in next 3 st**, Repeat ** to **, skip 1 st at the end of the row
  • Round 17 – (sc, ch 2, sc) in the corner, sc in all st around to the corner

Ended with 46 stitches per side and it is 8 inches wide.

Round 11: Is that meant to be 2dc, ch2, 2dc or ONE dc, ch2, 2dc in each corner?

Sorry, it’s 1 DC in both sides. Corrected it. Thank you for finding that error!
